JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the intake and disposal of all evidence/property. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

JOB SCOPE:

No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Receives, records, bar codes, stores, preserves, and maintains chain of custody of all evidence, needed in the prosecution of cases, and all other property room. M 40
2. Researches reports to determine status of cases and owners of property; attempts to locate owner, utilizing computer systems available; sends certified letters, prepares court orders, and property release forms necessary for the disposal of property; returns property to owners; and updates log book and computer system to reflect disposal. L 35
3. Gathers, classifies, stores and prepares abandoned and seized property for city auction, donation, destruction, departmental use. Coordinates destruction or disposal of abandoned and seized property. Updates log book and computer system to reflect disposal. M 10
4. Coordinates with detectives, patrol and other agencies on evidence being controlled. L 5
5. Accepts packages for the Police Department, court, and dispatch. M 5
6.  Performs all other related duties as assigned. M 5

Knowledge of basic police work and the operation of property room and jail sections. Knowledge of computers. Ability to organize and manage time efficiently. Skills in typing and filing.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One year related experience.
3. Valid Texas Drivers License with acceptable driving record.
