December 3, 2007 HEADLINE: Guilty Plea in DPS Lab Drug Theft;
Ex-technician to testify against accused partners HOUSTON TX- A former DPS technician pleaded guilty Monday to charges that he stole cocaine from the Department of Public Safety's crime lab in Jersey Village over the past several years and says he will testify against his accused partners in crime. Hinojosa was arrested in February after a peer review of the lab turned up the missing drugs. December 14, 2007 HEADLINE: Former Polk Co. Police Dept. Capt. Charged with Possessing Stolen Firearms
ROME, GA. Barry Wallace, 40, of Cedartown, Georgia, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of stealing firearms while employed as a captain by the Polk County Police Department. WALLACE made his initial appearance and was granted $10,000 bond by a United States Magistrate Judge this afternoon. WALLACE used his position as captain in charge of the evidence room to steal guns from the evidence room that he either kept for himself or gave away to others. This case is being investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. December 18, 2007 HEADLINE: Austin, MN. Police Capt. Charged with Drug Possession
AUSTIN, MN. AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) An Austin police captain was charged Monday with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance after allegedly taking two bottles of Oxycontin from a police evidence room. Rude had been second in command with the Austin police. A week before his suspension, he also won a seat on the Austin School Board. December 27, 2007 HEADLINE: Ca. Highway Patrolman Charged with Stealing More than $1M in Cocaine from Evidence Room
SANTA ANA, CA. Authorities allege that Joshua Blackburn broke into an evidence room at the CHP office in Santa Ana before dawn Friday and took the drugs. The six-year department veteran was arrested later that day and is being held in lieu of $4 million bail at the Orange County Jail. Blackburn, 32, was charged with burglary, possession for sale of cocaine and transportation of cocaine. The drug charges carry an enhancement that alleges the amount of cocaine exceeded 40 kilograms.
