Letters to IAPE
Good Ideas For Members From Members

Letters and e-mails are frequently sent to the IAPE office expressing appreciation for the Association and the services provided to the members. Most frequently mentioned are the seminars presented by Executive Director Joe Latta, and Association magazine, The Evidence Log(c). Each and every note is special, and serves to encourage the staff to keep the needs of the front-line property and evidence workers as our primary consideration. For example:

"Just came back from the seminar in St. Augustine and it was great. Keep up the good work."
Ted Whitcomb
Assistant Supervisor of Evidence
Broward County (FL) Sheriff's Department

Sometimes we get letters going into detail explaining how the information has been used, and we want to take a little extra space with two of those letters. These writers not only took time to "make our day," they provided details that will help direct our efforts, and may give other members some great ideas that they may be missing on making the most of information available through the Association.

"I find the publication (The Evidence Log) to be a wealth of information regarding the issues important to the management of the property and evidence division. I use this information to help me plan, implement, validate or change the practices and procedures used daily within my division or by the officers submitting evidence and property. I also find the articles to be a useful resource in educating my administration and prosecutors having jurisdiction within my area .... I utilize the information I collect from The Evidence Log to review and update my SOP ... , Thank you for the educational information included in each of The Evidence Log and keep up the good work!"

Rick Patton, Evidence Coordinator
Rice County (MN) Law Enforcement Center
Property and Evidence Division

"I want to express to you my appreciation for the Property and Evidence Seminars. I attended in St. Augustine, FL in December 1999. When I took all Property/Evidence Room responsibilities seven years ago, I tried without success to obtain permission to attend a seminar. All I could do to help myself was apply for membership in IAPE to receive The Evidence Log.

A new administration later, I was actually asked if I wanted to attend! Since I assumed I knew everything by then, I politely declined. My supervisor persisted and I finally agreed to go to St. Augustine.

I'm sure you've heard it all before: I was so impressed! You were so helpful and informative! I met so many great people with problems and concerns just like mine!

I have slowly but surely begun to put some of your ideas and suggestions to work in my Evidence Room. The time being saved was immediately noticeable.

"Thank you for your help and caring."

Kathryn Shepard
Evidence Custodian
Columbia County (FL) Sheriff's Office.
